A medical drama and a crime classic join the eSeries schedule this April, both free on Openview Channel 109.
JOHANNESBURG, April 2025Â -- eSeries has added two acclaimed international dramas to its Openview lineup this April, marking a significant expansion of the channel's storytelling slate. New Amsterdam, the channel's first medical drama, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, one of the longest-running crime series in television history, are now both airing free on Channel 109 -- no subscription required.
The two acquisitions reflect eSeries' continued commitment to bringing world-class television to South African audiences across a range of genres -- from emotionally grounded medical drama to authoritative, issue-led crime storytelling.
New Amsterdam
Season 1 — Now Airing | Weeknights 19:35
At the centre of New Amsterdam is Dr Max Goodwin, a man who walks into one of America's oldest and most overwhelmed public hospitals and, on his very first day, asks a question that cuts through decades of bureaucracy: "How can I help?" It sounds simple. In practice, it upends everything.
What follows is a series that refuses to settle: not for easy answers, convenient resolutions, or stories that leave viewers untouched. New Amsterdam moves between urgent medical cases and the private lives of the doctors carrying them, charting the toll of a system that demands everything from the people trying to fix it. The series features a diverse ensemble cast whose individual storylines carry as much weight as the cases they treat, drawing on the realities of public healthcare to ground even its most dramatic moments in recognisable human truth.
New Amsterdam is the kind of series that reminds viewers why they fell in love with television in the first place. Season 1 began airing on 16 April, with Season 2 following from 18 May -- both available free on Openview.

Rounding out the April additions is a series that needs no introduction.
